In this instance Brix will be used to determine the general health of a plant by measuring how well it is producing and storing sugar from photosynthesis. This measurement is taken by light refraction and can be done rather quickly. Brix Testing tells you not only if a plant is healthy but if that plant is very healthy. Without checking the Brix you cannot determine a plants health to a degree or level. If a gardener wants to know if adding a certain nutrient to a plant is helping the plant or not a Brix reading could be a solution. Checking the plants health before and after adding or removing nutrients can help you determine exactly what nutrients are right for what plants at what stage of growth. WOW no more reading a bottle adding some nutrients and saying I hope that's enough or I hope its not too much! By simply knowing a plant's Brix ratings throughout its growth and keeping them optimal the plant will be able to fight off most pests all by itself with no assistance.

The amount of testing done is up to the plants caretaker. Yes some leaves will have to be removed to conduct Brix testing but not all plants will always need to be tested. At caretakers request the plant can be pruned on site by technician. Initially each plant will be tested separately and will continue to be tested that way until consistency is seen among the plants. At that point one or two plants may be tested each time.
